NOTES:
Written across a leisurely fortnight in my gap year, this immediate prequel to "Alien: Resurrection" accounts for how the crew of the pirate ship Betty came together. I can't remember why I wrote it now. I'd been ruminating over a conventional pirate story set on the seas in the 1700s for several years beforehand, and this seemed like an interesting way to get it out of my system. The thing about writing in someone else's universe is that you're building on what somebody else has already created. It's easier than starting from scratch, having to make your own universe from the bottom up. Not having to spend as much time developing settings and characters allows you to focus solely on the plot.
