NOTES:
I had the idea of a hallucinogenic drug ingested via the eyes that gives the user temporary schizophrenia a few years ago, but never thought of a vehicle for the concept. Then I had an eye exam, and spent several days musing over the potential of the human eye. When I sat down to write the first chapter (simply for the sake of writing something), I had nothing but a death in mind; it was going to be like a Dan Brown opening: start with a murder that, when investigated, turns out to be more than just what it seems. But by the time I reached the end of that chapter, a plot about pharmaceutical conspiracies had already formed in my mind, and the killer drug itself had exceeded its original McGuffin status into being something more. It wasn't planned to be a supernatural horror, but the story decided it would employ elements thereof.
I don't know whether I'll write any more of this. Unlike "The Rabbits Of Roadkill Turnpike", which I only wrote because I was all out of better ideas (and by the time I got some, I was far too involved to stop), I've been writing this story mainly as a way of keeping the momentum going. The longer you leave it between finishing one story and starting the next, the harder that is to do. So I only ever plan to write this on a casual basis, so it might never be finished.
For some reason, "Butterflykill" came to mind as a title for this story.
