PAMELA
Timothy began to whine instantly.
“Give it back! That’s mine!” He started to grab at her hand, slapping the fist in which she was holding it.
Pamela stopped, pulled him up by the hand and slapped him twice against the back of the legs.
Timothy began to cry.
As they left the airport there was a busker outside the terminal playing Bob Dylan on an acoustic guitar. Pamela dropped the pound coin into the cap lying on the ground.
NOTES:
You watch some parents' behaviour in public and you wonder why they had kids in the first place, but you reckon they were thinking of bonny smiling babies and university graduates when they conceived, not the stages in between. Superficially, Elizabeth might have seemed the better maternal figure, but whereas Pamela punishes, Elizabeth bribed, and Elizabeth's inner thoughts revealed she felt much the same way about Timothy as Pamela does anyway.
