This isn't something you see in British universities, a sign on a wall saying this stretch of the corridor is where you come if there's a tornado (because of the lack of windows i.e. glass). Despite it's name, Mount Pleasant is actually built on low, flat land that makes it prime tornado territory when the temperatures are changing drastically in spring and autumn.
