A plethora of ducks descended upon the car when we parked in Traverse City, which is the furthest north we went. Any further and we would have ended up in the Upper Peninsula, which has a reputation of being populated by hicks and rednecks. Traverse was disappointingly similar to Southend on Sea; a seaside town in winter is a depressing place to be.
